YurTEA & Coffee at SkyeSkyns
On a lovely bright Spring morning we had a ride out to YurTea & Coffee at SkyeSkyns. Located in the grounds of SkyeSkyns is their new pop up Coffee Shop – YurTEA. With beautiful views over Loch Bay to Dunvegan Head and the Outer Hebrides islands of North and South Uist what’s not to love.
We were the first customers of the day at YurTea & Coffee but it wasn’t long before more people began to arrive . Word has got out about this special little place. The Yurt has rustic decor, a log burning stove and true to it’s location sheep skins on the chairs from the neighbouring tannery. If the weather is kind there are some benches outside so you can enjoy the views and fresh air.
Fresh barista made coffee, a tea bar and locally made cake, my idea of heaven. 
I opted for a Latte and a slice of Lime, Lemon & Orange cake. It happened to be Gluten Free but I would never have noticed had I not been told. The cake was tangy, moist and delicious, topped in sweet sticky icing. The Latte was tasty and perfectly poured. We had a lovely chat with the barista and she gave us a warm welcome to the island.
SkyeSkyns
Once you’ve had your refreshments make sure you go into SkyeSkyns for a look around the tannery and shop. Here there are free guided tours of the workshop which transports you back in time to see how old techniques are still used to bring you quality sheepskins in the 21st century. It is amazing how a scruffy looking piece of wool turns into some of the most beautiful creations.
Waternish
Don’t rush away from the Waternish peninsula, there are plenty of spots to 
explore. You can access the shore of Loch Bay at Stein. Here there is a small car park at the end which will fill up quickly in midsummer. This is also where you find the Stein Inn – the oldest Inn on Skye.
Follow the road along Waternish to Ardmore you will find yourself at the ruins of Trumpan Church. There is a brutal history attached to Trumpan Church when in 1578 a revenge attack on the MacLeods by the MacDonalds of Uist killed all the churchgoers inside bar one 11 year old girl. She raised the alarm but later sadly died of her injuries. Take some time to wander through the kirk yard and read the history that is alive and well there.
If you have more energy you can enjoy the 8-9 mile walk to Waternish Point Walk and back. The views across The Minch are very rewarding as well as finding memorial stones, abandoned buildings and a lighthouse along the way.
